Patricia “Pat” Everett Tatum, 85, of Burgaw passed peacefully Tuesday, January 25, 2022 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born September 19, 1936 in Pender County, the daughter of John D. Everett II and Sarah Wilma Lockey Everett. In addition to her parents, Patricia was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years (high school sweetheart and the love of her life), Meredith Lee Tatum; daughter, Laury Tatum Smith; great granddaughter, Evelyn Tatum; brother, John D. Everett III; and sister, Eleanor Stephens.
Patricia is survived by her sons, Kimble L. Tatum (Suzanne) and Michael D. Tatum (Darla); grandchildren, Kimberly Rivenbark Williams (Ronnie), C.T. Smith, Jr. (Tiffany), Sarah Tatum, Gabrielle Tatum, Jordan Tatum (Anais), and Travis Tatum (Heather); great grandchildren, Skyler Williams, Tatum Rae Smith, Leelend Tatum, and Mason Tatum; sister-in-law, Sabra Nunalee; and many nieces and nephews.
She retired from Belk Beery after working as a sales associate for over 46 years. For many years Pat and Lee were members of Long Creek Baptist Church.
Pat was a true Southern lady filled with grace and charm. She loved and cared for her family, making each one feel special. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. Pat spent many hours with her friend, Hattie Squires, researching family and Pender County genealogy, a favorite pastime. Pat will be remembered for her radiant smile, kindness to others, and her feisty spirit.
The family will receive friends 1:00 p.m., Friday, January 28, 2022 at Long Creek Baptist Church, Burgaw with funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. in the church sanctuary with Pastor Wayne Bateman conducting the service.
Burial will follow in Malpass Memorial Cemetery at Long Creek Baptist Church
The tender loving care that granddaughter, Kimberly gave Pat on a daily basis during her illness was so appreciated by everyone in the family. In addition, Pat's family will always be eternally grateful for the exceptional care and comfort that was given to Pat and Pat’s family by her LCFLC nurses, Kevan and Heather and social worker, Monica.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be given to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Foundation, 1414 Physicians Dr., Wilmington, NC 28401.
