Patsy Murray Obituary

Patsy McLellan Murray of Leland, NC entered eternal life on May 12, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Murray and her brother, Mickey McLellan, her father, Vernon P. McLellan and her mother, Isabel Caulder McLellan.  In the presence of our Lord Jesus, Patsy is having a joyful reunion with her beloved husband and a multitude of family and friends.  We believe that she entered into heaven with her beautiful alto lifted in praise and worship!  Her zest for life and enduring love is carried on by her two daughters; 3 grandchildren; her sister; and all the wonderful extended family relations and friends that were so very much a part of her life.

Music was a major part of Patsy’s life from an early age.  She began playing the piano at age 13 for Sardis Baptist Church in Latta, SC.  Patsy spent the rest of her life utilizing her musical abilities to serve in various capacities at numerous churches in the Wilmington, NC area including Gibson Avenue Baptist Church, Pine Valley Baptist Church, Castle Hayne Baptist Church, Seagate Baptist Church, Seaside Chapel, Community Chapel Baptist Church and Elah Baptist Church.  For decades, she led and sang in various church and community choirs including the Wilmington Celebration Choir. Patsy felt that God had given her the gift of music and she felt led to serve the church as needed in this capacity.  Additionally, she played the organ for countless funerals and weddings and formed bell choirs that performed at Christmas events. Patsy organized and directed decades of Easter cantatas and plays to glorify our Lord.  She also coordinated weddings at several churches and stepped in to organize regular fellowship events for the children and the youth groups over the years.  In addition to non-stop service within the Christian community, Patsy worked 17 years at Deutsch Relays making coils for Blackhawk Helicopters and F16s and then 23 years as an Activities Director for senior nursing & rehab facilities beginning at Britthaven Nursing Home for 6 years and Autumn Care of Myrtle Grove for 17 years where she retired.  Patsy fought a valiant fight with an aggressive pancreatic cancer and was able to stay at home until the end of her journey in this life with her daughter, Melodie, by her side.

Patsy is survived by her daughter, Jackie Murray Rosner and her husband, Jürgen, of Overland Park, KS; and their children - Philipp Rosner and Marisa Rosner Meador and her husband, Michael; her daughter, Melodie Murray-Davis and her husband, Jeff of Leland, NC; and their children - Murray Davis and Alex Davis; her sister, Pam McLellan King and her husband, Paul; her family by marriage: Betty Jean Hurley; Ralph Murray; Patsy Harrell; Bobby Maynor; and Jackie Maynor and their spouses; and all the nieces, nephews, family and friends too numerous to list but not forgotten.  She is also survived by her special little baby and constant companion, Spike.

Patsy’s family rejoices in the knowledge that she is with Jesus.  In celebration of her life, the family will receive friends on Friday, May 21, 2021 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  A funeral service will be held at Elah Baptist Church, Leland NC, at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 22, 2021.  Pastor Gordon Powell of Community Chapel Baptist Church and Pastor Kenneth Long of Elah Baptist Church officiating.  The Wilmington Celebration Choir, Joey Gore – Director, will lift their voices in praise! Interment will follow at the Oleander Memorial Gardens with Pastor Billy Fowler, Evangelist, officiating.  There will be a live stream via Elah Baptist Church’s Facebook and also via YouTube.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Patsy’s memory may be made to the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick - Lower Cape Fear, 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC 28422 or http://lifecare.org.
