Paul Rogelio Drenning “Pablo” passed in Hampstead, NC, on Saturday, January 4, 2026.
Pablo was born in San Diego, CA, on May 2, 2000, to Rogelio Drenning Manriquez and April J. Boney.
At age 6, the family moved to Palm Desert, CA. After graduating from high school in 2018, he attended the University of Oregon in Eugene. During these years, Pablo made many special friends who will miss him tremendously.
As the youngest child in his family, Pablo’s loving spirit brought much sunshine and joy to his parents and family. He and his parents enjoyed traveling together, including many times to Copenhagen to visit his brother and family and to North Carolina to spend time with his grandparents and Aunt Joan. He was everyone in the family’s favorite TV partner due to his diversity in interest. He enjoyed participating in TV nights ranging from watching historical documentaries and movies with his parents, to action films with his dad and to even indulging his siblings in hours of binge-watching series even if he had already seen them before.
Pablo was a life-long history buff, and his hobbies and interests included reading across genres, Legos, anime, Star Wars, gaming with his friends, collecting and painting Warhammer miniatures, going to the gym, and practicing Krav Maga.
Pablo was a thoughtful and generous person who will be warmly remembered for his curiosity, patience, and sincerity. Pablo spent his final year living in his family home in Hampstead, NC, where he enjoyed the tranquility of fishing the local waters from his dock.
Pablo now joins in heaven his grandparents Joyce Boney, Amelia Drenning, Horace Drenning and his special family friend, Johnny Hawley.
He is survived by his parents, his grandfather, Jimmy Boney, and many siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins – including his second cousin, Glen Page. Glen’s friendship, support, and kindness were a great comfort to Pablo during his last years.
Pablo is also survived by the Ramos family in San Diego, who helped raise Pablo and loved him as one of their own; Nina Ramos, Pablo’s beloved and dedicated “second mother”; Nina’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ramon Ramos, Pablo’s abuelos; Nina’s sisters; and most importantly Nina’s children, Mauricio and Ramon Jimenez, who were Pablo’s best friends and brothers for life.
Pablo’s parents will be lovingly bringing Pablo back home to California for burial, and a Celebration of Life memorial will be scheduled for him on a future date. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Pablo’s honor can be sent to the family’s favorite local charity, the Barbara Sinatra Children’s Center at Eisenhower, to support mental health counseling.
