Posie Hill Lanier, age 18, of Wallace, departed his brief but oh so significant life on earth on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. His Mama and Dad were by his side as he moved in with Jesus and joined his younger brother whom he has missed terribly.
Hill was born to Dona and Denny Lanier on August 4, 2003. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his grandparents Romona and Terry Hill Rivenbark, Deborah and Gary Thomas Lanier; aunts and uncles Gina and Chuck Farrior, Summer and Matt Lanier; cousins Sarah Pearl, Cole, Patyn, Maesie, and Cade. Also, included as family is Hill’s faithful prayer warrior and Senior Blesser, Nell Sloan. Lastly, he leaves behind his new hunting buddy Riggins. Hill was preceded in death by his brother Thomas Wright Lanier.
Because of Hill’s determination, dedication, and resilience towards his goals, combined with the love, support and prayers from all of you, he graduated from Harrells Christian Academy with his classmates in May 2021. He walked across the stage without any assistance to receive his hard earned diploma. Hill enjoyed life to the fullest. Many obstacles and challenges were thrown his way the past two years as a result of his disease and treatment. His strength, courage, faith, and drive to get better allowed him to find ways to still enjoy the things he loved most. Although unable to play soccer, Hill stayed involved. Often talking to his coaches and teammates before and after the games. Hill was able to shoot a banded duck at his favorite hunting spot in Hyde County. He also got to shoot a turkey this past season. He learned to make his own fishing lures. He caught a fish on his new boat. One month after his third and fourth brain surgeries, Hill attended his Senior prom with his good friend, Savannah Wells. That night he was crowned Prom King. A few weeks later he took the baseball field with his teammates participating in one inning for his last game. Hill was even able to spend some time this past summer at another one of his favorite places - Topsail Beach. Hill had the unique ability to make everyone feel included and that their life mattered. We pray his legacy lives on through all of those who love and miss him.
