Robert Maurice Walsak, Jr. of Kelly, North Carolina, better known by friends as Bob, Bobby, or Wally passed from his earthly life Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at home with his beloved family.
He was born February 12, 1947, in Wilmington, NC, the son of Robert M. Walsak Sr. and Doris Faircloth Walsak. In addition to his parents Bob was preceded in death by his sister, Dottie W. Kilpatrick.
Bob is survived by his wife of 49 years, Frances “Kathy” Russ Walsak; sons, Terrance L. Walsak (Kristy) and Thomas M. Walsak (Suzi); grandchildren, Hailey Fought, Alexandra van Dorsten (Bailey), Tyler Barber (Emilee), Michael Walsak (Meghan), Chandler Barber, Amberly W. Schreck (Gene), and Dixie Barber (Austin); great grandchildren, Journey Kimball and Jackson Fought; brother, Dennis M. Walsak (Posey); brother-in-law, Grant Kilpatrick; and many extended family and friends.
Bob attended New Hanover High School Class of 1965, then enlisted in the US Army in 1966 where he served for six years. While in the military Bob served in the United States, Germany, and in Vietnam, obtaining the rank of Staff Sargent. Bob was awarded two Bronze Stars and an Army Commendation award in Vietnam as a member of the Army 75th Ranger Regiment. Bob was employed for 30 years as a shift supervisor with DuPont Petrochemicals at the (former) Cape Fear site in Leland and lived in Wilmington until retirement. He and Kathy moved to Kelly and became active in church and community activities. He was a member and Assistant Fire Chief at the Kelly Volunteer Fire Department. Bob was a faithful member of Haw Bluff Baptist Church.
Bob was an Esophageal Cancer Survivor. Bob’s interests included housebuilding, renovations, yardwork, and automotive restorations. He was a Christian man of many talents, beloved by family and friends
The memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 7, 2025 at Haw Bluff Baptist Church, 1433 Haw Bluff Road, Ivanhoe, NC 28447 with the Rev. Jacob Lewis conducting the service. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
