Ruth Hunter Ezzell, 95, of Garner and formerly of Wallace passed gently from her earthly life Friday, February 21, 2020 at Transitions LifeCare in Raleigh.
She was born July 31, 1924 in Onslow County and moved as a child with her family to Wallace where she met and married Earl Ezzell in 1941. For many years Ruth worked as a cashier at the Wallace A & P Grocery Store. Upon her husband’s death in 1977, Ruth moved to Garner where she worked and retired from NC Dept of Revenue.
Ruth was the daughter of Edward Liston Hunter and Bessie Paderick Hunter Norris. Also remembered are her husband of 36 years, James Earl Ezzell; and brothers, Roger, Robert, Chester, and Elmer Hunter, all who preceded Ruth in death.
Ruth is survived by her beloved family, daughter, Rita Sumner and husband, Kenneth of Raleigh; son, Glynn Ezzell and wife, LuNell of Garner; grandchildren, Mark Sumner (Stephanie), Ryan Ezzell (Heather), Aaron Ezzell (Rosario), and Jamie Ezzell (Jessie); great grandchildren, Matthew Sumner, Kirsten Ezzell, Emily Ezzell, Taylor Ezzell, Piper Ezzell and Garrett Langdon; and brother, Nelson Hunter.
Ruth was a woman of uncommon character, beauty and grace, “ an instrument of God’s love on this earth.” In her younger years, she was a lady of many interests; gardening, working in her yard, fishing and traveling. Most recently she enjoyed Bingo and word puzzles, but her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. Ruth was a friend to all; a strong yet gentle and loving presence to all who were blessed to know her. She will surely be missed but cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved Ruth Ezzell.
The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace with funeral service beginning at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Jamie Ezzell will conduct the service.
Burial will follow in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery , Wallace, NC
