Samuel "Sam" Vinson, 95, of Dudley, North Carolina passed away on Monday, January 5, 2026, at UNC Health Wayne Memorial Hospital.
He was born on August 20, 1930, in Wayne County; the son of the late James Franklin and Bessie Ellis Vinson. Mr. Vinson was also preceded in death by his siblings Hiram Vinson, Frank Vinson, Wilbert Vinson, James Vinson, Lilly Vinson Waters, Anna Vinson Creech and Sally Vinson Creech.
Surviving to cherish his memory is his devoted wife of 65 years Carolyn Gideons Vinson of the home; daughter Cheryl Vinson Stafford and husband B G Mitchel, son Samuel Kent Vinson and wife Michelle; grandchildren Ashleigh Stafford, Ava Vinson, Kaylee Vinson, all of Dudley, North Carolina, nephew Michael Phelps and wife Susan of Raleigh, North Carolina ; numerous extended family and friends that loved Sam dearly.
Sam, as he was affectionately called, enjoyed gardening and sports. He was a pitcher in the “Goldsboro Industrial League” fast-pitch softball. He loved his church, family and friends. Sam will surely be missed, but treasured memories of him will remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home Wallace Chapel with the Reverend Tommy Blanton officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Sunday, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Entombment will follow the funeral service at Riverview Memorial Park Mausoleum in Watha, North Carolina.
Mr. Vinson will be entombed in the mausoleum. The family request that in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be sent to Antioch Church, 5030 Willard Road, Willard, NC 28478 in Samuel Vinson’s memory .
