Shirley Ann Herring, a cherished mother, grandmother, and embodiment of love, passed away peacefully at her Leland home on August, 29, 2023, at the age of 79.
Shirley was born on June 14, 1944, in Fort Ann, New York. She was the daughter of the late William “David” McFarren and Sarah Ann Reynolds McFarren in addition to her five siblings. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Franklin Donald Herring a testament to the power of love and partnership. Their spirits watch over her and continue to be part of her journey.
Shirley’s memory will live on through her survivors; her loving children, Sherry Ann Lossen, Brenda Ann English, and Steven Herring and his wife, April; her loving, adult grandchildren, Franklin “Frankie” Donald Cooke, Laura Ann Woods and her husband, David, and George "Georgie" Albert Lossen IV; Their accomplishments and growth were a source of immense pride for her; her loving, young grandchildren, Kylee, Abigail, Amelia, Clarissa, and Alexander; her loving, young step-grandchildren; Austin, Ethan, and Emily. Their presence brought immense joy and warmth to her life as they were the light of her life. Shirley’s legacy continues to inspire her extended family and friends, encouraging them to embrace compassion, resilience, and the joy of family connections.
Shirley’s life was a symphony of compassion, strength, and the enduring bonds of family. Her journey was marked by shared dreams, cherished memories, and a steadfast commitment to her loved ones. As a mother, Shirley bestowed upon her children the gifts of guidance, understanding, and unwavering support. Beyond her role as a mother, Shirley’s heart knew no bounds when it came to helping others. Her career as a caregiver for senior citizens was a reflection of her innate kindness and her desire to make a positive impact on the lives of those around her. Shirley’s green thumb mirrored her nurturing spirit as her gardens bloomed with colorful life. Sewing was another of her passions, allowing her to infuse her creations with creativity and love. Shirley’s legacy of care and compassion extended even further with the joyful reunion with her late sister’s daughter, Ann Marie Winch. Shirley’s determination to find her niece was a testament to her unbreakable love for family.

A private graveside will be held at a later date by the family.
