Shirley Ball Miller

      Shirley Ball Miller of Burgaw joined her beloved husband, Horace K. Miller, in eternal rest on Monday, June 15, 2020, at the age of 84. She was born April 17, 1936 in Duplin County to the late Roy Ball and Lola Futrell Ball.

      Shirley is survived by her son, Horace K. Miller II (Rachel Bonnin); daughter, Melanie M. Kelley; grandchildren, Heather Lynne Kelley (Owen Rivenbark) and Andrew Bonnin; brother, William Ball (Sue "Tee"); and  several nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses, Raymond and Frances Ball and Edna and Larry Jordan; and son-in-law, Joseph Kelley.

     For over 45 years, Shirley was a faithful member of Long Creek Baptist Church where she taught the children’s Sunday school class and assisted in the summer Bible school program. Shirley dearly loved her church family.  She was a devoted Christian, poetry writer, craft maker, a lover of nature and the beauty of flowers.  Shirley loved her dogs, Big Daddy and Hank who were her protectors. Shirley’s friendly smile, warm heart, and gentle spirit will surely be missed.

     A Celebration of Shirley’s Life will be held 3:00 p.m., Friday, January 22, 2021 at Long Creek Baptist Church, 5131 Malpass Corner Road, Burgaw, with Pastor Brad Thurston officiating.

     The family request that mask be worn.
