Sophia Kelley Floyd

     Sophia Kelley Floyd, 94, passed gently from her earthly life Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at Davis HealthCare.

     She was born August 14, 1928 in Bladen County, the daughter of Aaron and Iva Bradshaw Kelley. In addition to her parents Sophia was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Eugene R. Floyd, Sr.; son, Eugene Ross Floyd, Jr.; and brother, Aaron Horace Kelley.

     Sophia is survived by her daughter, Kelly Marie Jacobs and husband, Jerry; daughter-in-law, Lorie Floyd Daniel and husband, Brian; grandchildren, Aaron Floyd, William Floyd, Ivy Floyd, Doyle Retherford (Rebecca), Matt Jacobs (Brook), and Nicki Jacobs; great grandson, Griffin Retherford; many extended family members and friends.

     Teaching business and typing for 36 years, Sophia influenced the lives and careers of many young people. She was a member of national and local Teacher’s Society, Delta Kappa Gamma, Theta.

     Sophia was a faithful member of Atkinson Baptist Church where she sang in the choir as well as supporting other church activities. Her Christian spirit was evident throughout her life. She was a longtime member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 280 where she held many positions through the years.

     Sophia was a gifted and generous homemaker as she was an exceptional cook sharing jellies, pies and other delectable recipes with family and friends. She loved and was loved in return.

     A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 26, 2022 at Kelley Cemetery, Longview Road, Kelly. The Rev. Kenneth Smith will conduct the service. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. At other times the family will be at Sophia Floyd’s residence.  

    In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to a charity of one’s choice in memorial of Sophia.
