Steven "Steve" Walker Obituary

Steven “Steve” Lynn Walker, 50, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Novant Medical Center in Wilmington.

He was born on March 27, 1974, in Durham, NC, to the late Gerald Lynn Walker and Shelia Dianne Boyd Tubb.

Steve Walker, affectionately known as “The Governor,” was a true man’s man! He loved to fish and hunt. He loved to go to the shooting range and target practice with his
9mm Smith & Wesson. He also loved and appreciated the quality craftsmanship of a well-forged knife. His collection of knives may seem minimal to some, but he valued
and took great care of what he had. Steve was a certified genius with a brilliant mind! He could fix absolutely anything that was broken or just needed to be tweaked. He drew up plans and constructed – by hand – our storage shed and our king size platform bed. He also drew up plans for Michael Paul’s queen size platform bed, then guided and assisted Michael Paul during construction. Steve was a wise and patient mentor to Michael Paul as he taught him how to drive (only one minor hiccup with our mailbox!) and assisted him with homework and many school projects from middle school through graduation.
Steve was a funny guy and could tell the most outlandish and animated tales, all based on real-life experiences.
Steve was also a true computer geek and received his associate’s degree in computer science from ECPI. He worked as a Tech Support Specialist with Verizon until his
health forced him to step away from full-time employment. He maintained his knowledge of computers and kept it as current as possible with ever-advancing
technology by helping many with computer clean-ups and software installations. Steve also created and printed the bulletins for our beloved church, United Faith Fellowship,
for over six years. One of the most important things to share about Steve is that he loved the Lord Jesus
Christ with all his heart. He studied the scriptures often, and when it was no longer feasible for him to attend regular church services in person, he would watch the
service, as well as other Spirit-filled pastors and teachers, online. Steve was a faithful servant till the end and is now praising our Lord face-to-face!!
Steven, I love you and miss you so much it hurts! You will forever by My King and I Your Queen. You will be in my heart until we meet again in Glory!

Steve is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Dabney Dzurovcin Walker; stepson, Michael Paul David Dzurovcin (Zoey Stanley); brother, David Gerald Walker (Trina); aunt, Sandi Carr; uncles, Harold Boyd and Danny Boyd; niece, Becca Walker; nephew, Tim Walker; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.

In addition to his parents, Steve was also preceded in death by his stepfather James Durrell Tubb; and stepbrother, Recce Durrell Tubb.

The family would to thank the following persons:

William “Bill” Fossett, FNP-C, Black River Health Services
Bill’s compassionate and unwavering care, made evident through house calls,
weekend text messages, and home delivery of meds (sometimes paid for by him),
makes him the most selfless practitioner that Steve and I had EVER met. We were
simply in awe and so appreciative of his care!

Michael Paul and Zoey
My rocks! Just being there day in and day out ― love, support, silence, cooking,
cleaning, hugs, etc. I could not have done the last four years without you!!

Dave and Trina Walker
Unconditional brotherly love, patience, understanding, financial support, words of
wisdom, and guidance are all the descriptive words that Steve would want me to say!
You both are also my rocks, and I truly thank you and love you both so much!

Pastor Don and Ruby
From hospital and home visits to love, delicious food, and financial support, Don and
Ruby are the most caring, Spirit-filled couple ever! In addition, Ruby’s friendship has
been unwavering, from late-night phone calls to texts to just an illuminating light in my life!

Richard, David, and Laura Lee – my siblings
My ever-present support system…from love, support (both financial and emotional),
phone calls, texts, and visits…I am so appreciative of you all and will be forever
grateful to God that He gave us all the same DNA!

Aunt Sandi and (the late) Uncle Dave
You two were Steve’s “other mother and father!” So much love and support (emotional,
financial, words of wisdom) …the “Governor” loved you both more than life itself!

Jade, Ally, and my Easterseals PORT Health Team
I’m almost at a loss for words. There is no way to express how much you mean to me
and how much you have supported me through this journey!

Sister Dee & Sister Pam
Cards, phone calls, and texts…Steve appreciated you both and truly felt your love!
