On a beautiful sunny Friday morning (November 20, 2020) the bedroom window was opened to hear birds singing and Stoney McKoy sored to his heavenly home as his family surrounded him with love.
He was born June 4, 1941 in Pender County to Sprunt Jefferson McKoy and Hazel M. McKoy. In addition to his parents Stoney was preceded in death by his siblings, Tim McKoy and Bedie Thigpen.
Stoney is survived by his daughters who reside in Burgaw, Pamela Edwards and her husband, Trevor, and Teresa Bennett; grandchildren, Casey Edwards, Hannah E. Carroll (Peter), Cody Edwards, Noah Edwards, Hunter Swinson and Haley Swinson; great grandchildren, CJ and Cameron Edwards; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Stoney served his country honorably in the US Army during the Vietnam War.
After 33 years of service Stoney retired as a sergeant with the NC Dept of Corrections.
Stoney was a man never to be idle, he stayed busy keeping his yard clean and mowed, using his tractor, and taking time to go fishing. He also enjoyed repurposing things and spending time in his workshop just piddling around. Most of all Stoney loved his family and spending time with them. His grandchildren brought much joy into his life. He was loved and will be missed.
