Suzette Jean Benning

November 4, 1940 ~ January 9, 2022 (age 81)

Suzette Jean Benning, age 81, of Wilmington, NC passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2022 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.

She was born on November 4, 1940 in Saint Paul, MN to the late Jules DeMoen and Dorothy R. Rand DeMoen.

Suzette was a strong woman with an independent Spirit, who cared about people. Words can’t express just what a kind soul she was. She never said an unkind word about any one nor did she ever curse. She was a happy traveler who had a great sense of humor and could laugh easily.

Suzette was widowed at 41 and never remarried. But she always had the courage to gracefully face all that life threw her way. She loved her family and friends. Suzette always sent birthday and Christmas gifts to her grandchildren even after they became adults. She appreciated being with her friends and often spoke about how blessed she was that they cared for each other so deeply and texted each other every single day. Suzette also loved animals, especially dogs. She enjoyed spending time with her little dachshund and “best buddy,” Jake.

Suzette had creative talent and a green thumb. She enjoyed working in her yard and often posted pictures of her many plants. She took great pride in the many blooms from the yard and from the house plants, especially her beloved Christmas Cactus.

In lieu of sending flowers or donating to a cause, Suzette would want you to buy yourself a plant and then plant it in your yard or in a special pot. Take care of it, watch it grow and take pleasure when it blooms. Post a picture of it when it does. And hopefully think about a kind lady that would be happy to see you making the world a better place.

Suzette is survived by her son, Daniel Benning and wife, Beth; daughter-in-law, Miyuki Benning; grandchildren, Josh Ross, Kyle Benning, Avery Benning, and Xian Benning; and great-grandchild, Ava Benning.

Suzette was preceded in death by her husband, William Benning; son, Douglas Benning; sister, Patricia DeMoen; and brother, Michael DeMoen.
