Thomas “Tommy” William Fussell, 88, of Burgaw passed gently from earthly life Sunday, January 22, 2023 at his home surrounded by family and lots of love.
He was born December 19, 1934 in Raleigh, the son of Thomas Edmund Fussell and Helen Parker Fussell. In addition to his parents Tommy, was preceded in death by his siblings, Gretchen Teachey, Fred Fussell and Parker Fussell.
Tommy is survived by his sons, James “Jimmy” Thomas Fussell and Scott Bland Fussell (Kelly); daughter, Kathryn Fussell Glover; love of 30 years, Mary Tompkins; Mary’s daughters, Cindy Caison (Mike) and Bonnie Gore (Connor); grandchildren, Jessica King Bain (Neal), Ameron Fussell Donald (Alan), Chris Rich, and Megan Rich; great grandchildren, Emersyn Bain, Beau Bain, Henry Donald, Jackson Rich and Aubrey Echard; several nieces, nephews, and many friends.
In years past Tommy owned and operated Fussell’s Automotive in Castle Hayne. He retired from GE Corporation in Castle Hayne after working many years in the Nuclear Fuel Division.
Tommy was a man of many interests as he enjoyed yards sales, flea markets, and the Wallace Stockyard. All his unique finds he had so much fun selling on eBay, which he spent hours doing. Tommy had a Christian spirit, a sunny smile, kind word to give, and a great loved of family.
A memorial service will be 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 26, 2023 at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with Rev. Mark Teachey conducting the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home following the service.
