Vernita Ruth Ludlum, 86, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 30, 2021, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.
She was born on February 25, 1935, in North Bend, OR, to the late William James Schettler and Lorna Yetive (Adam) Mudd.
Ruth worked as an administrative secretary at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena, CA, for nearly 20 years. She then pursued a career in real estate after getting her real estate license by attending USC. She sold real estate for the Whipple Real Estate company for 5 years before returning to North Carolina with her family. After returning to North Carolina, Ruth and her husband, John, opened D&B Seafood Restaurant in Burgaw which they operated for nearly 17 years. In 1994 she lost her husband, John Lacey Ludlum. He was the love of her life.
Ruth was a strong, gentle and kind woman who was a bright light to many who knew her. Most importantly of all, she was a loving mother.
Vernita is survived by her daughter, Lorna Renee Ludlum, of Wilmington, and a proud 20-year veteran of the US Air Force.
