With deepest sorrow, we announced the sudden and unexpected passing of a Christian young man, Waylon James Mitchell on Friday evening, March 20, 2026 at the young age of 18. He was born July 17, 2007 in Wilmington to his loving parents, Christopher “Chris” Brian Mitchell and Amanda Lee Mitchell.
Waylon is survived by his parents, Chris and Amanda; brother, Wyatt Mitchell; grandparents, Brian and Kay Mitchell, Doug and Wanda Goff, and Charles and Faye Lee; his sweetheart, Jasmine Stolley; best ever friend, Carter Winter; many extended family members and friends.
After graduating Pender High School, Waylon, with his notable good work ethic, went to work with Corbett’s Heating and Air.
Waylon with his quick wit was a joy to be around. He loved setting catfish lines in Black River and had learned how to cook catfish from grandaddy Charles. Turkey hunting was another fun thing that Waylon enjoyed. Most of all Waylon loved his family, family times together, and he loved Jasmine. Waylon never failed upon leaving saying “I LOVE YOU.” Waylon will always be loved, remembered, and remain in our hearts.
The funeral service will be 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2026 at Shiloh Baptist Church with The Rev. Gardner Eakins conducting the service. The family will receive friends at the church at 11:00 a.m., one hour prior to the funeral.
Burial will follow in Eakins Cemetery.
