William Roscoe “W.R.” Jones, age 86, of Wallace, left this earthly life for his eternal rest on Sunday, April 24, 2022, from Cypress Pointe Rehabilitation in Wilmington.
He was born on October 7, 1935, in Duplin County; the son of the late Samuel P. and Sue Kinsey Smith Jones. “W.R.” was also preceded in death by his devote wife of 67 years, Susie Harrell Jones; grandson, Chris Jones; great grandson, T.J. Mattox; and sister, Claudette Pickett.
“W.R.” proudly served his country in the US National Guard. He was a part of the Wallace Pentecostal Holiness Church family.
Surviving to cherish his memory are his sons, Glenn Jones and wife, Judy of Rose Hill, James Jones and wife, Blanche of Wallace and Billy R. Jones and wife, Winnie of TN; 7 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; sisters, Martha Ann Nichols, of Wallace and Doris Boney and husband, Charles of Chinquapin; and numerous extended family and friends that loved “W.R.” dearly.
“W.R.” was a kind and caring father who loved his family dearly. He was a quiet man who kept to himself and minded his own business. He loved to travel when he was able and being a truck driver, he was able to do so and see many places across this United States. “W.R.” was a good provider for his family and made sure they had what they needed as they grew up. He was a simple man who lived a simple life. He will surely be missed but great memories will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 6:00pm on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home in Wallace.
Funeral service will follow the visitation at 6:00p.m. at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home with his pastor, the Reverend Bobby Smith officiating.
