Wright Blake Batson, 80, stepped into Glory early Saturday morning, July 19, 2025 at his home.
He was born March 21, 1945 in Wilmington, the son of the late Vernon Blake Batson and Helen Casey Blackmore.
Wright is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sherri Hobbs Batson; sons, Keith Alan Batson (Catharine) and Scott Anthony Batson (Shannon); grandchildren, Bradley Barber and Makenzie Barber; sister, Cynthia Lewis (Samuel); niece, Maresa Dunkel; nephew, TJ Lewis (Kristie); like a son to Wright, Wes Casey; cousin and best friend, Bill Ferrell (Debbie); best friend, Mike Baucom (Sharon); many extended family and friends. Not to be forgotten Wright’s lap dog and constant companion, Max.
Early in Wright’s career he worked with Heatcraft Refrigeration Products and later worked and retired from Four County EMC. He was a faithful member of Burgaw Baptist Church.
Beyond his professional life, Wright’s faith was a guiding force in his life. He was a devoted husband, excellent dad, grandaddy, brother, uncle, and friend to many. Throughout the years he enjoyed both hunting and fishing. Wright sported a green thumb that could grow most anything as he kept a vegetable garden growing summer and winter as a well as a manicured yard. He kept the bird feeders filled for the birds that he enjoyed watching. Wright’s passing leaves an empty place in our lives and most especially in our hearts.
The memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 26, 2025 at Burgaw Baptist Church with the Rev. Danny Justice conducting the service. Following the memorial service there will be a gathering of family and friends in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest that you consider a memorial gift to The Matthew 25 Center, 1196 Penderlea Hwy, Burgaw, NC 28425 or to Burgaw Baptist Church, PO Box 385, Burgaw, NC 28425.
